I’ve been wanting to post about this little round ball of joy for a while, but now I totally know what the internal hold up was. Turns out, I had the plant all wrong. About 10 years ago I learned that this was Pineapple Weed aka Matricaria discoideae, but I could never detect that pineapple fragrance I’d read about, cuz it ain’t there. Please forgive my miseducation friends, and there are a few of you over the years who’ve received the wrong info from me @just.me.in.gilbert Thankfully I was corrected last week @enchantedherbals so let me introduce you to Globe Chamomile, aka Oncosiphon piluliferum. Globe Chamomile has a bright, sunny disposition, and this year it’s growing all over the dang place…turns out it’s a non-native and noxious - but I suspect it has something to teach us desert dwellers…Link in bio to read more #herbalismeverywhere #globechamomile #nonnativeplants

Ocotillo Medicine started calling me on a hike yesterday, and made sure that I answered the call by sending a message through my friend and co-herbalist that some limbs had been downed during a heavy rain. We collected the one limb, seen in picture 3, and took it home to process in a labor of love. Luckily we really LOVE what we do! Processing plants to whom you’ve given gratitude, harvested yourself, and with whom you intend to make Medicine for healing others is a magickal, blessed experience. I’ll be writing more on the virtues of Fouqueria splendens soon, but just so you know, it’s most well known for moving energy through the pelvic area. My very first blog (well not counting the Livejournal and Deadjournal days!) was named Orange Poppy. I started it in 2006 when I moved to Eugene and found this plant growing all over the dang place as a weed. I had no idea what it was, had never seen anything like it growing up on the East Coast. I was in love, and didn’t take long to learn it is California Poppy, or Eschscholzia californica. I went and bought a big bag of seeds and recall the clerk giving me a weird look, maybe she thought I thought they would get me high or something, but I always went over board with stuff like that. I mean the first herb I ever ordered was Stinging Nettle, and I ordered a 3 pound bag 🤦🏻‍♀️ Anyway, the lovely little Western wildflower has never once stopped enchanting me, and as it turns out, it’s one of my most trusted allies in the apothecary of my life. I have incorporated it into formulas for pain, disturbed sleep, nerve issues, anxiety, and stress/depletion. It’s suitable for children and adults, and I prefer to tincture the entire fresh plant when in bloom - root, stem, leaf, flower, and seed. The first batch I made was from poppies I grew in my community garden plot in Eugene. I had moved to Arizona by the time they were blooming but I drove back at harvest time. I must have made half a gallon. It was one of the most beautiful medicines I’ve ever made and it helped so many people in a wide variety of dis-ease states.
